Soldiers turn on the Tories and May

THERESA May’s Christmas speech that hailed the work of the UK’s Armed Forces has been slapped down by an officer that has claimed troops are only getting £1 per person for Christmas celebrations, it has emerged.

The soldier, stationed in Kabul, blasted the huge gap in soldier treatment compared to the US shortly after Theresa May praised troops for “humbling bravery” and “daily sacrifices”.

The officer said: “The contrast between the American and British approach is staggering.

“As an army, we don’t have as much money as the US, but even the Danish and Mongolians seem to be doing more.

“They haven’t even sent us enough for a coffee.

“The Americans send in more money to feed the stray cats on their compound.”

The 500 UK troops in the region have been given £500 to celebrate with, tallying up to a mere £1 per soldier.

However, the officer did reveal that numerous parcels of gratitude have arrived in Kabul for the festive period from friends and family.

He added: “It has been staggering to see the number of parcels that have arrived for us from friends and family.”

As defence bosses fail to deliver substantial rewards for the UK’s hardworking soldiers, US troops received holiday trees, turkeys and a screening of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Don Baumgartner, the area support group director for the US’ Installation Management Command, stated: "It's very rare that we get to see a new release movie here.”

US Army Colonel Scott McFarland added: “We are excited to once again be able to offer a much-needed break from the harsh day-to-day reality these service members face while on deployment.”

The newest entry into the highly popular franchise will be shown at US bases in at least six countries including Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.

UK troops have resorted to plucking the stars of American trees and replacing them with flags from their home country, according to reports.

Theresa May’s Christmas speech on Saturday paid tribute to Britain’s “selfless acts” and declared they embody the nation’s shared values.

She announced: “Men and women in our Armed Forces whose humbling bravery and daily sacrifices help to ensure the security of our nation and our allies around the world.

“The heroes in our emergency services whose courage and dedication so inspired the nation in response to the tragedy at Grenfell Tower and the abhorrent terrorist attacks in Manchester and London.

“And the thousands of volunteers in our country who will give up their time to make someone else’s Christmas that little bit better.”
