Outrage over Trump retweeting Britain First

MPs in Parliament put pressure on the Government to denounce Mr Trump. Labour MP Yvette Cooper said the far right group’s deputy leader Jayda Fransen had been given a “huge platform” while other MPs told Home Secretary Amber Rudd to “go on, stand up” after she did not immediately respond to the issue and stayed in her seat.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn tweeted: “I hope our Government will condemn far-right retweets by Donald Trump. They are abhorrent, dangerous and a threat to our society.”
Britain First, a far-right political organisation that is anti-immigration, was created in 2011 with former members of the British National Party. Unverified videos Mr Trump retweeted three unverified videos first shared by Ms Fransen. The videos were all more than six months old with two dating back to 2013. The titles of the videos on Ms Fransen’s tweets read “Muslim Destroys a Statue of Virgin Mary!” and “Islamist mob pushes teenage boy off roof and beats him to death”. For the latter, the footage refers to an incident during the riots in Alexandria, Egypt, in 2013, according to the Press Association.
